God's mercies never end

Sunday 6th December 2020, 10:30am

1. Welcome and Bible bit

This week we are looking at Lamentations 3:22-23. Lamentations isn't actually a prophet like we've looked at in other weeks, but is traditionally thought of as the work of the prophet Jeremiah, (of the book of Jeremiah), although not everyone agrees on this. Either way, the book of Lamentations (only 5 chapters) can teach us a lot about expectation.

Do you know what a lament is? It is an expression of great sadness about something, sometimes in a poem or a song. Some of the Psalms are laments. The book of Lamentations is a collection of poems about the despair and suffering of the Israelites (God's people) in Jerusalem, but in the middle, comes a reminder of who God is and what he is like:

2. Craft

This week, we are making bracelets. See if you can find a piece of wool, embroidery thread or string to make a bracelet from (a pipe cleaner works too!). If you have any beads or buttons, you could thread them on, or you could make your own by snipping out some coloured paper and poking a hole through the middle, or making some out of modelling dough.

You could plait your string or thread to make it more exciting and weave beads in to the strands.

4. Discussion & prayer

Put your bracelet on and look at it. What shape is it?

The circle of our bracelets going round and round reminds us that God's mercies and love go on and on forever.

What things do you wish would never end?

How do we feel when good things end?

How could your bracelet remind you of God's love for you?

Do you know what compassion is? What does it mean when the bible says that God's compassions are new every morning?

What else do these verses tell us about God?

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you that your love for us never runs out. Thank you that you never stop being faithful to us. Thank you that you are kind to us. [Put in some more thank yous here of things you know about God, maybe from our bible verse today.]

We are sorry for the things we have done that have not honoured you or shown who you are to our friends and families. Please help us to be like you - to be kind every morning, to forgive other people for the wrongs they do to us, and to love with a faithful love that doesn't give up. Thank you that you will help us with this.

Amen
