Leadership changes and new elders

By Andy O'Connell, on behalf of the elders

This video is a presentation given by Steve Jones (Senior Pastor) to the church family meeting on Thursday 27 January 2022, in which he explains what has been changing in patterns of leadership in the last 3 years, the introduction of Focus Teams, and proposes the appointment of 3 new elders.

If you haven't done so already, don't forget to first watch Steve's talk from Sunday 9 January 2022, given at OCC - watch the whole service here, or just the talk here. In that talk he explains how we see leadership and eldership working in the church. It will answer many of your questions!

This is the first of two Church Family Meetings in Spring 2022. The second Church Family Meeting is on Sunday 6 March.

Action needed!

By Sunday 27th Feb, please respond to Steve Jones (email given in video) on these 4 questions:

  1. Do you see the 3 proposed new elders each meeting the biblical qualifications for eldership (1 Tim 3, Titus 1)?
  2. Are there areas in which you would like to encourage any of them, and/or where you believe they still need to grow?
  3. Is there anyone else that you would recommend be recognised as an elder in the church?
  4. Is there anything else that we should take on board or explore as we continue to develop leadership in OCC?

Want to get involved?

Also, Steve also asked you to us know (email the office on @email or talk to one of the elders or Focus team leaders) if God is stirring you about leadership in general, or especially in one of these 5 areas of church life:

  • welcome
  • children and youth
  • prayer walking the local Osney Mead area
  • training and sending
  • connections with the city

More questions?

If you have further questions on how we do leadership in OCC, and have not yet attended an Exploring Membership event, we recommend that as a great opportunity to ask questions about leadership and all other aspects of OCC life. A clear understanding of how leadership works in the church is obviously an important foundation for those who become church members.

Membership is also a pre-requisite for most levels of leadership in the church, as explained here.
